B.D. Celebrates Marist Brothers 200th Anniversary and National Day of Service with Community Food Drive

Bishop Donahue High School is sponsoring a Canned Food Drive for Benwood-McMechen as part of the Marist National Day of Service. This year’s theme for Marist National Day of Service is “Doing Good is Good to Do.” Marists schools and communities from all over America will also be doing service on this day.

On Tuesday, March 21, the entire student body will participate in a Bag Drop for the canned food drive.  All residents of McMechen and Benwood will be given a heavy duty paper bag in which they can donate food.

The canned food drive pick-up will be on Wednesday, March 29, from 12:30 to 1:30.. Also on the 29th, we will erect a LITTLE FREE PANTRY near the school. LITTLE FREE PANTRY is a nationwide movement which began in May of 2016 in Arkansas. This is the first LITTLE FREE PANTRY in this area. The LITTLE FREE PANTRY will be able to serve this local community for years to come. Go to littlefreepantry.org to find out more. Students, faculty, and staff will also celebrate mass, attend the blessing of our new community pantry, and  share videos/pictures on social media with other Marist service activity projects taking place nation-wide on March 29.

The pantry, a gift to the community from the students of Bishop Donahue, will help serve those in need for many years to come.  All members of the McMechen-Benwood community are encouraged to assist with the stocking of the pantry in the months and years to come.  We hope that community members will “Take what they need and Leave what they can”. Our students continue to serve the least favored by “Entering to Learn Christ and Exiting to Serve Christ.”
