On Thursday, November 20, 2014 Bishop Donahue was graced to host a retreat for the 7th and 8th graders from Our Lady of Peace School and Ss. James and John School. Fr. Dennis Schuelkens, pastor of Our Lady of Peace Parish and designated pastor of Bishop Donahue served as the Retreat Director. Not only did he give a thought-provoking talk, but also celebrated liturgy at the end of the day to add an exclamation point to the experience! The theme for the day was “Advent: Preparing Our Hearts for Jesus.”
There were 18 B.D.H.S. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who prepared to be Retreat and Small Group Leaders by attending early morning meetings for more than 1 month. These student-leaders are to be applauded for their dedication and faithfulness in preparing for and executing this wonderful day for the 7th & 8th graders. Two seniors, Stephen Gretchen and Matthew Vucelik, shared witness testimonies on the themes of “Bloom Where You Are Planted” and “Triumph Over Adversity”, respectively. These testimonies were fantastic discussion points for the small groups! Thanks to those two young men for sharing so much of themselves for the good of the group!
