Students Meet Holocaust Survivor During Pittsburgh Field Trip

B.D. students with Holocaust survivor Sam Gottesman

On Tuesday, December 6, Mrs. Granato’s 1st year Holocaust Studies class took a field trip to Pittsburgh. The main purpose of the day was to visit the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh to not only view the exhibit called In Celebration of Life: Living Legacy Project which featured dozens of Holocaust survivors who ultimately settled in the Pittsburgh area, but also to meet and speak with Sam Gottesman, a 93 year old Holocaust survivor. Seniors Will Dove, Zoey Gast, Jen Little, and Trent Snyder, along with Classrooms Without Borders Wheeling director, Barb Lewine were humbled and grateful for the time spent with Sam telling his story, so that his story, in turn, may be retold time and again. A special thanks to Rachel Herman of the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh for her hospitality in welcoming us to the Center.
