DSCN1365On Thursday March 17th, Bishop Donahue students Christopher Albert, Robert Chesonis, Sophia Gretchen, Mady Keller, Isabel Reilly and faculty member, Ms. Mary Beth Ray, helped to serve at The Sisters of St. Joseph Annual French Dinner.

The dinner, held in the beautiful surroundings of the St. Joseph Center, celebrates the sisters’ heritage that originated in LePuy, France.

Students helped to serve authentic French cuisine and assisted in after dinner clean up.
Everyone enjoyed a fantastic evening with the Sisters of St. Joseph’s and their guests and every student said, “Sign me up for next year!”

Night To Shine Offers EXIT TO SERVE CHRIST Opportunity to BD Students

IMG_0706On one night, February 12, 2016, more than 200 host churches in 48 states and 7 countries hosted Night to Shine.  More than 70,000 volunteers and 32,000 honored guests shared the same amazing prom experience on the same night around the world.

In the Ohio Valley, over 40 B.D.H.S. students and staff volunteered their time, talents , and energy to adults with special needs “honorees” to give them a prom experience that none would soon forget. It was held at the old WV Penitentiary in Moundsville. Our staff and students were invited to participate by Kristi Crawford and Rev. Dr. Steve Mentzner of the Bowman United Methodist Church in Glen Easton.

Night to Shine was a night for the churches to shine, the volunteers to shine, our honored guests to shine, and most importantly, God to shine! Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience centered on God’s love for people with special needs ages 16 and older.

Every guest of Night to Shine entered this complimentary event on a red carpet to a cheering crowd and friendly paparazzi. Once inside, guests received the royal treatment including hair and makeup stations, shoe shining stations, corsages and boutonnieres, a karaoke room and, of course, dancing! The highlight of the night came when every one of the Night to Shine guests was crowned as a king or queen of the prom. At the Ohio Valley Night to Shine one of the honorees asked his long-time girlfriend to be his wife, and she said “YES”! Our BD volunteers were there to cheer them on a shed a few tears of happiness on their engagement!

As sponsors of the worldwide movement of Night to Shine, the Tim Tebow Foundation provided each host church with financial support, a detailed instruction manual, a prom kit complete with decorations and gifts for the guests, and individualized staff guidance.

Bishop Donahue volunteers one and all can’t wait for next year and we have even provided input to the Tim Tebow Foundation to help make it bigger and better!  Night to Shine is A Night to Remember for the kings, queens, and volunteers alike!
