B.D.’s Miranda Heitz Receives President’s Volunteer Service Award

DSCF7920Miranda Heitz, a senior at Bishop Donahue High School, has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama. Bishop Donahue nominated Miranda for national honors this fall in recognition of her volunteer service.

Principal Tom Wise praised Miranda for her selfless efforts, “Miranda is an outstanding young lady and a great role model for our younger students.  Her generosity of time and spirit have positively impacted our school, and community.”  Wise noted that the school theme, “Enter to Learn Christ, Exit to Serve Christ” are words that Miranda lives by.  “We are extremely proud of Miranda and she is truly deserving of this prestigious award”.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), recognizes middle level and high school students across America for outstanding volunteer service.
