Daughters of Holy Mary of the Heart of Jesus…Sisters visit B.D.H.S.

On Monday, November 4, 2013 the Bishop Donahue community was photo5graced with a visit of two sisters who are members of the religious order Daughters of Holy Mary of the Heart of Jesus. Sr. Ingrid de Maria and Sr. Alianza Maria (translated the Covenant of Mary) spent the day in the classroom speaking to all students on the topic of a Call to Holiness. They played the guitar and sang a song during announcements for the entire student body and faculty as part of daily prayer. The sisters lovingly shared the story of their order which was founded in Spain, is 580 sisters strong, and is present in 9 countries around the globe (only in the US since 2011 with 5 members living in Steubenville, OH) . The order is both contemplative and missionary with apostolate like schools and orphanages. The motto of the Daughters of Holy Mary of the Heart of Jesus is “May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be loved everywhere” encouraging all who hear the motto to transform their lives to reflect the love of Jesus. The Srs. Ingrid de Maria and Alianza Maria challenged the students to start with the Eucharist as the most full and complete way to find the “perfect” human & divine love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. To cap off the day, the sisters joined all the Bishop Donahue and St. Vincent de Paul Spanish Students in the BD cafeteria for an “El Dia de los Muertos” (The Day of the Dead) remembrance. They shared Mexican food, stories, music, and fun with the students. The sisters invited all the girls in the school to join them at their house in Steubenville for a monthly prayer meeting called “Traveling Teens”. There they would have the opportunity to share prayer, play volleyball, share a meal, and spend time with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration.
